Holy Wisdom Monastery is Looking for Eco-Volunteer Leaders
We are looking for 3 volunteers to train to become Eco-Volunteer Leaders at Holy Wisdom Monastery. The monastery is located just outside Middleton on 130 acres of restored prairie, woodlands, and wetlands. You would be training with our restoration ecologist/groundskeeper and facilities supervisor to become familiar with environmental activities on the land and learn about the care and maintenance of the new LEED certified monastery building. This hands-on training will give you the skills and knowledge to supervise other volunteers who help at Holy Wisdom Monastery.
The training commitment can be flexible. It would include 3-4 hours each week for up to two months. The Eco-Volunteer Leader duties would include occasional weekend hours to help with special events (such as Community Volunteer Workdays) and some evening hours to lead volunteer work groups or help with nature walks.
As an Eco-Volunteer Leader you will:
Learn about, study and observe native plants and wildlife in a beautiful setting.
Develop leadership and hands-on skills.
Work with enthusiastic volunteers on Monastery Green Team projects and our fall and spring Community Volunteer Workdays.
Engage in work that restores and maintains native ecosystems-prairies, woodlands, wetlands, savannah, and lakeshore.
Improve habitat for wildlife.
Get fresh air, exercise, and a close connection to the land.
Become familiar with native landscape design and native plants.
Maintain "green roofs", rain gardens, and natural landscaping around the monastery building.
Learn about the systems and maintenance of a LEED certified building. i.e. Geothermal heating and cooling, rain gardens, natural daylighting, solar panels, etc.
