Holistic Moms Group Celebrates One Year with Open House and Food Drive
The South Central Wisconsin Holistic Mom’s Group, a local chapter of the non-profit Holistic Mom’s Network, will be celebrating their One-Year Anniversary on Wed Nov 18th. The Open House and Food Drive will take place at The Mount Horeb Public Library, 105 Perimeter Rd, Mount Horeb, from 6:30-8 PM.
The group welcomes all parents, parents-to-be, grandparents, and anyone else interested in natural parenting, green living or a holistic lifestyle. Come learn about the Holistic Mom’s group, how to become part of the community, enjoy refreshments, meet other like-minded parents, enter a drawing for great prizes, and more. Guests are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Mount Horeb Food Pantry for the Holiday Food Drive.
“This first year has been a great success, with over 20 active members and many new faces at each meeting,” states Dr. Brenda Trudell, co-leader of the group. “We have grown and accomplished a lot, and this next year we want to focus even more on helping the South Central WI Community.”
Throughout the first year, topics of discussion included creating a non-medicine cabinet, using green cleaning methods, vaccines, natural childbirth, sharing birth stories, setting holistic intentions, and nutrition. The group has donated food in two area food drives, participated in local health fairs, and started Mount Horeb’s First Lactation Station at this year’s Fall Fest. The Lactation Station is a clean and comfy place for moms to nurse, feed or change her baby. There have also been workshops on EFT and making homemade kombucha. In May they sponsored a Mom’s Night of Pampering, and hosted potlucks, playgroups and meals for new moms throughout the year. The group also organizes trips to informational events and speakers throughout the area.
The leaders hope to add more to the agenda in the upcoming year, including more events, movie nights, a resource/lending library, more community/volunteer involvement, and topics such as recycling, composting, schooling.
The Open House is a free event and is open to the public. Learn more about the group and meet other like-minded moms in our area. Children are welcome to attend.
