Deciduous Tree ID
March 16 Sunday 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Registration deadline: March 6
Leaves provide an easy to identify trees and most people can tell a maple tree from a birch tree. However, in Wisconsin when deciduous trees (those that drop their leaves in the winter) are without leaves for six months of the year, other characteristics can be used to tell one tree from another. Join UW Extension educator Kris Koch for the Deciduous Tree ID class at Olbrich Botanical Gardens on Sunday, March 16 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Learn to use the clues from tree bark, fruit, and leaf scars to identify various trees. The class will begin with a classroom briefing on basic winter tree ID skills; then the class will move outside to practice on common Wisconsin trees. Participants will receive the Winter Tree Finder guide by May Theilgaard Watts and Tom Watts.
