Sustainable Times has a circulation of 12,000 copies and is available at over 350 locations in the Madison area, Dane and Jefferson Counties, and several communities just outside Dane County.

Ad Design

Sustainable Times offers basic free ad design services to all our advertisers for all ad sizes, both for new ad design and revisions for all advertisers that turn in their requests and materials prior to the monthly ad design deadline.

Ad design deadline is the third to last Friday of the month prior. Example: For January 2008, the deadline is Friday, December 14 at 5pm.

Please Notice:
If you require more elaborate professional services than ad layout we will gladly refer you to local professional graphic designers who offer special rates for Sustainable Times advertisers.

• Full-color logo -- or B/W if color is not available -- in hi-res PDF or 300 dpi or higher resolution JPG format (if no electronic version is available a pristine business card usually works via mail).
• Any images you may want included in the ad, in hi-res PDF or 300 dpi or higher resolution JPG format
• General or specific text you want used in the ad, such as contact info or business info
• Sketches or layout ideas
• Size of the ad you want and run length you have decided on. (Size can change month-to-month. To lock in your current rate, you must commit to run at least 4 ads/year.)

Print-Ready Ads

Ads that do not need ANY design assistance and can be sent print-ready must be received by 5pm the second to last Friday of the month prior. Example: For January 2008 that is Friday, December 21 at 5pm.

Print-ready ads need to be sent electronically in hi-res PDF or 300 dpi or higher res JPG format to: sustainabletimes@gmail.com

Art Requirements

Please review the following information about art requirements. These rules must be adhered to in order to ensure the best quality print of your ad. Sustainable Times is not liable for poor print quality when ads or materials for ads are submitted that do not follow these guidelines.

• All images & logos submitted must be in hi-res PDF or 300 dpi or higher res JPG format.
• Vector based ads (made in InDesign, Illustrator, Quark) print crisper than pixel-based ads (Photoshop).
• The ad and all its materials must be in CMYK mode.
• All blacks used in the ad must be 100% K, not a combination true black.
• Best quality results from simpler colors. Use as few color channels as possible per color when choosing colors for your ad. Example: You will get a crisper print with a 2 channel blue than a 4 channel blue.
• Do not use reverse type. If it must be used, use as large a font as possible.
• Do not use spot colors.

2008 Advertising Rates

Discounts between 10% and 25% off the unit price are applied if an ad runs for 4, 6, 9 or 12 months.

Dane County Buy Local Initiative members & Mount Horeb Business Network members receive an additional discount indicated in red below. If you are a business in Mount Horeb or Dane County, are not a member of DCBLI or MHBN, and would like to learn more about becoming one, ask us for more information.

The Sustainable Times is also available online (www.sustainabletimes.net). Advertisers in the print edition will automatically receive the same ad in the web edition, as well as a link to their homepage, at no extra cost.
