L'Etoile: Rhône Ranger wine dinner
*Rhône Ranger Wine Dinner
Wednesday, August 6
L'Etoile, Madison
* *L'Etoile's next wine dinner will feature the charismatic and daringly
enterprising growers of Rhone varietals in the New World*.
"Rhone Ranger" is a term that has been around for about 25 years and it
refers to a group of (predominantly California) winemakers; these
winemakers developed a reputation as mavericks, pioneers, and
risk-takers because they chose to grow different grapes - syrah,
grenache, and mourvedre - rather than those already established classics
- merlot, cabernet and chardonnay. These wine makers are often organic
and sustainably-minded, which makes them very compatible with our
philosophy at L'Etoile. The Rhone Rangers have in many ways become
romanticized in much the same way as Montmartre, Paris was during the
days of Hemmingway and Gertrude Stein.
The Rhone Ranger wines are also a dream to match with food. They are
versatile, yet focused and will pair beautifully with the flavors
expected to be in season in early August.
*Part of the proceeds from this dinner will support one of Chef Tory
Miller's passions: the healthy diets and agricultural awareness of
Wisconsin school children.* So come to eat, enjoy and help L'Etoile
raise money for Wisconsin Homegrown Lunch
School Garden Project*.
The dinner will begin at 6:30, guests are welcome to arrive anytime
between 6 and 6:30. Cost for the dinner and the matching wines is $100.
(This does not include tax, gratuity, or additional beverages.)
