Capital Brewery’s record-setting Supper Club beer wins international award
Three months after its astoundingly successful retail launch, Capital Supper Club, the newest release from Capital Brewery, was awarded the title of the world’s top American Premium Lager at the US Open Beer Championship.
The US Open Beer Championship is an international competition with entries from all over the United States and more than twenty other countries including Brazil, Germany, and Canada. This year’s event included more than 700 beers in fifty categories.
Despite the trophies and plaques that line the halls of Capital Brewery, brew master Kirby Nelson is particularly proud of Supper Club’s gold medal victory at the US Open Beer Championship. “There are a lot of competitions but the US Open is one of the more prestigious brewing awards in the country.”
The US Open Beer Championship is a recently formed competition that has quickly risen to one of the crown jewels of brewing recognitions because it welcomes everyone from craft brewers, large mainstream beer companies and even home brewers. “A gold medal from the US Open is truly an honor because it includes such a range of beers,” Nelson said.
Evan Hughes, Publisher of DRAFT Magazine, the leading publication reporting on beer and the craft brewing industry, commented, “Capital Brewery is a great example of the Wisconsin Brewing Tradition, they keep raising the bar on quality. Supper Club is no exception, it’s a break-through beer that has gotten – and deserves – national attention. Few small breweries are capable of such success. Supper Club represents one of the most successful new beer launches in recent history.”
Supper Club hit store shelves April 1, 2010 and sold out what was to be a six-week supply in three days. Since the retail launch, Capital Brewery has sold more than 2 million 12 oz. servings of Supper Club – an unprecedented and unexpected amount.
Capital Brewery Company, Inc. is a publicly held company based in Middleton, Wisconsin. It brews eight annual, four seasonal and between two and four limited release beers amounting to 23,000 barrels each year. In November 1998, it was named the top brewery in America by the Beverage Tasting Institute of America, an independent panel of international beer experts.
