Farmers and Chefs to Create a Bountiful Feast for "Day on the Farm" Event

Local food fans, families and folks out for a Sunday drive are invited to experience the best of rural Wisconsin at a special food and farm event to be held on July 18th from 11-3 pm.

A Day On The Farm will take place at scenic Jordandal Farms in Argyle, WI. The afternoon will include kids' activities, tours of the farm, a picnic-style lunch and educational talks about sustainable farming in Southern Wisconsin.

The beautiful rolling hills surrounding Jordandal Farms will provide the perfect setting for professional chefs from the Madison Club, Dayton Street Grille, Restaurant Magnus and Tornado Steakhouse to show off their culinary expertise with a stunning meal made of local, seasonal ingredients.

"We are really excited to cook with quality, fresh ingredients in such an ideal location," says Dan Fox, executive chef at the Madison Club and REAP Food Group board member. "As much as chefs love their kitchens, there's nothing like cooking and eating right on the farm."

In addition to dining on the picnic lunch, guests will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable practices taking place on this small family farm. Hosts Carrie and Eric Johnson and Matt Walter, have opened up their farm to event guests and will provide tours and talks about the farm's production methods.

"We are hoping to educate people on how we farm using multiple species to produce the highest quality meats, naturally," says Carrie Johnson. "It is a great thing to see people wanting to know how and where their food comes from." Carrie also believes that getting to know farmers and understanding life on a farm is "important for pretty much everyone that eats."

This event raises money for REAP Food Group's Buy Fresh Buy Local program (BFBL). BFBL is a partnership of local farmers, chefs and other food service providers working together to increase opportunities to eat fresh, local, sustainably grown food.
