'Burgers & Brew 2010: The Taste is Local' at Capital Brewery June 5

Join the party this summer as Madison area chefs team up with local farmers and talented brewers of Wisconsin to serve up mouthwatering burgers and beer at Burgers and Brew 2010: The Taste is Local, Saturday, June 5th at Capital Brewery Bier Garten in Middleton.

Taking the main stage are burgers specially made with locally grown ingredients from Southern Wisconsin area farms and prepared by twelve area chefs. The burgers will showcase each chef's creativity using local meats, vegetables, and cheeses and dressed with a variety of traditional and surprising condiments.

Each burger will be served with a local beer specially selected to compliment the flavors of each chef's creation, satisfying even the most discriminating cheesehead palate. The chefs, farmers, and brewers will all be on hand to serve up these tasty offerings.

"With a burger in one hand and a beer in the other, Wisconsin locavores couldn't be happier! This event is truly unique and very popular, so I recommend buying your tickets early before they sell out," says Maria Davis, program coordinator for REAP Food Group's Buy Fresh Buy Local program. All proceeds from the event will benefit REAP's BFBL program which helps area restaurants find locally grown food for their menus and helps consumers connect to the abundance of local food in Southern Wisconsin.

At Burgers and Brew, each $25 ticket gets you three mini-meals. Each mini-meal includes a tasty burger and short pour of microbrew. Featured chefs from Alchemy Café, Brasserie V, Bunky's Café, Fresco, Ian's Pizza, jacs Dining & Tap House, L'Etoile, Lombardino's, Metcalfe's Market, Sardine, The Weary Traveler and Willy Street Grocery Co-op are all partners to the Buy Fresh Buy Local program. Among the 12 choices will be burgers made from local beef, lamb, pork, bison and chicken and 5 vegetarian burger options will feature local vegetables and cheeses.

For dessert, local Sassy Cow Creamery ice cream will be available for sale from another BFBL partner, Beans N' Cream Coffeehouse. Soft drinks will also be available for kids and those who prefer their beer of the "root" variety.
