EcoFair360 Aims To Make Every Day Earth Day In Walworth County
America will mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2010. If Fritz Kreiss and Catherine McQueen have their way, Earth Day will become an everyday event in the future of Walworth County.
Kreiss and McQueen are working to make Walworth County a destination of choice in the emerging green economy that is starting to take root throughout America. Part of their plan is EcoFair360, a three-day celebration of all things green, sustainable, and environmentally responsible which will take place July 16-18 at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn, WI.
“Walworth County has great potential to become a player in the emerging green markets,” says McQueen. “There’s a need here for responsible economic development that respects the pristine environment which is such a vital part of the county today. EcoFair360 will shine a spotlight on Walworth County.”
The Fair is being produced through the Eco-Vision Sustainable Learning Center, a nonprofit center founded by McQueen and Kreiss in nearby Delavan to promote green education and entrepreneurship. “Green businesses are looking for locations in the Midwest,” says McQueen. “Why not here? And the green lifestyle is, in many ways, simply a new twist on ways of life which are traditions here in Walworth County. We’re going to bring them all together at EcoFair360.”
EcoFair360 will bring together hundreds of exhibitors and presenters, as well as thousands of attendees looking to learn more about green energy, sustainable building, wise use practices and the green lifestyle. Kreiss and McQueen are promoting the Fair throughout the region, with particular attention to the urban communities of Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison. They are looking to appeal to both business interests and everyday consumers, with an emphasis on families looking to make environmentally sensitive choices.
Friday at the Fair will focus on green businesses, and spotlight new technologies, practices and products in building, manufacturing and recycling. EcoFair360 is currently booking speakers, and has been pleased with the response thus far, especially from local companies applying to speak on their topic of expertise. “There is a lot more expertise in this area, right now, than most people realize,” says McQueen.
Saturday and Sunday are targeted more to the consumer, the home owner, the parent and the local shopper and cook. The Fair is currently filling out its roster or speakers and workshop leaders on topics such as organic gardening, solar power for homes and schools, becoming a localvore, yoga practices, buying fair trade products and sustainable living practices.
EcoFair360 is still accepting requests from exhibitors, proposals from speakers and workshop leaders, and sponsorship requests at its web site, www.ecofair360.com. Interested parties can submit their requests and proposals directly online.
People interested in attending the event can sign up on the www.ecofair360.com web site to keep up with the latest developments.
