DocuScan of Wisconsin Receives Sustainability Award
DocuScan of Wisconsin, a program of the Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired, received a 2010 Business Sustainability Award on April 6 during a reception sponsored by In Business magazine.
The Business Sustainability Awards are the brainchild of In Business magazine and Sustain Dane. The panel of judges included Andrew Pace, Founder and Owner of Green Design center in Waukesha, WI; Tom Osdoba, Managing Director of the Center for Sustainable Business Practices at the University of Oregon; and Wyllys Mann, Director of Green Business Development Center at the Delta Institute.
Eight awards were given, and docuScan of Wisconsin received the Sustainable Workforce Development Award which “recognizes a company’s commitment to creating jobs that positively impact the environment, or provides training to its current workforce on issues of sustainability.”
Revenue generated by docuScan supports and strengthens the Council’s mission to promote the dignity and independence of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Currently, 60% of the docuScan staff is visually impaired or blind.
Beyond the security of having all of a company’s documents safe and retrievable, companies can help the Council provide and expand its free and low-cost services that promote the independence and dignity of people who are coping with changing vision. Companies receive a high-quality product, and in turn, they support the Council’s efforts to empower others who cherish their independence.
