Olbrich Gardens: Spring pansy sale
Spring Pansy Sale at Olbrich Botanical Gardens
April 3 Saturday
10 a.m. - while supplies last
Capture the first signs of spring with a colorful pansy at the annual Pansy Sale at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. The sale starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 3 and continues while supplies last. Take home the newest varieties in brilliant blends of yellow, blue, and purple, all grown in Olbrich’s own greenhouses.
Olbrich’s pansies have been planted in fiber pots instead of hard plastic pots. The fiber pots are “compostable, not plantable,” meaning that the pansies must be taken out of the pot and planted in the ground or a container. Then the fiber pot can be added to your compost bin or mulch pile and will break down naturally.
Pansies are cool weather plants that do best if planted in the ground. However, they also look great in a container, and make wonderful springtime gifts! Purchase them for yourself or for a friend. Not only decorative, pansies are also edible and add a flash of color to dishes as a garnish. Add an elegant flair to salads, decorate desserts, or garnish entrees or beverages. Try planting colorful pansies in a container with lettuce – it’s an entire salad in one pot!
All varieties of colorful pansies are just $6 each, plus tax, with three plants per pot. Decorative containers complement the pansies and are available for an additional charge. All proceeds from the sale benefit the Gardens.
