The film Escape from Affluenza shows how adopting practices of simple living creates independence from the epidemic of rampant consumerism and materialism that ails Americans and the environment. It uses expert commentary, thought-provoking vignettes and humor to show how people can reduce their consumption and simplify their lives. With stories of real people from Seattle to the Netherlands who have altered their lifestyles and re-discovered the joy of living, Escape from Affluenza offers the antidote to debt, stress, time-pressure, and possession-overload.

The Old Royal Inn in historic downtown Mineral Point is holding Local Food Celebration Dinners on the 4th Wed of each month. We try to use as much local and seasonal ingredients as possible and try to include as many different producers/farmers as possible. Local musicians play from 5:30 to 6:30, then everyone sits down in the dinning room at the same time to break bread together by candle light. The producers are usually on hand to discuss their product and answer any questions from the group. It is usually a 5 or 6 course meal that ranges from $18 to $25 depending on the offerings.
